The Evil Eye is an ancient symbol worm to ward off the malevolent gaze of strangers and possible curses. I became fascinated with this symbol after completing my MFA, feeling stuck creatively, I decided to paint it as an act of meditation to rid my mind of hyper critical voices that didn’t seem like they belonged to me. The Eye is also a fascinating symbol, as its the source of visual inspiration, gathering information on color, light, shadow, as well as social information; you can often pick up on who someone is or what their motives might be from looking into their eyes. Here the Eye is both insight and eyesight.
